Forklift License Training Methods

The delivery of material for forklift license training can occur in several different ways, depending on your or your companies’ requirements. Forklift License courses can be delivered onsite – that is at your workplace, or offsite – that is where the forklift license course is delivered at the training companies’ venue.

On-Site Courses

Due to the differences in workplace environments getting forklift training provided to you onsite can be extremely advantageous. On site training allows the instructors to focus training on forklift usage and forklift safety to your particular workplace and the specific hazards that exist in your workplace.

Off-Site Courses

Attending a forklift license course at an off-site venue (such a venue provided by the forklift training company) is great if you current don’t have access to forklifts in your workplace or you are looking to start a new career. The forklift license trainers will provide you with everything you need to complete your course, and get your forklift license.

Forklift License Course

The training content should cover all the aspects of being a professional, qualified forklift driver. Quality courses will cover such things as centre of gravity of the load, centre of gravity of the truck when carrying loads, hazards, weight capacities and capacity plates, safety inspections as well as correct driving techniques.

Good forklift license courses will also cover the Workplace Health and Safety requirements of forklift operation. Topics such as legal obligations, fines and penalties, safe usage, and signage will be included in training.

Forklift courses will provide the student with practical training actually driving the forklift and how to complete a number of maneuvers (much like getting your car license).

Finally the practical test will be required to be successfully performed by the student in order for the forklift license to be issued.

When you enquire about your forklift license training course ensure you check the content of the course is what you would expect to receive for your money.

Forklift Training Sydney

For those who are in the field of warehousing, attaining a Sydney forklift license is important. This license is required for workers who need to operate a forklift in their work area.

Forklift operation is considered as a very risky occupation which is why governments have presented specific requirements in order for operators to acquire a forklift license.

An important prerequisite is that, as an operator, you need to undergo a complete course of forklift training which are conducted by registered forklift assessors and trainers. Such professors are asked to handle the training so as to ensure that students learn how to operate the machine with safety and competence.

Another requirement for the license is that students should be at least eighteen years old and above. However, there are exemptions for some circumstances. Age is not the only requirement.

It is also crucial that students who want to have a forklift license should understand basic English along with writing and reading skills. Today, Worksafe does not define this requirement but only requires students to fully understand instructions given by assessors and trainers.

Along with completing a Sydney forklift training course a forklift license assessment is also required. Today, the training already comprises both theory and practical training.

The first module is based on theory. In this module students are expected to go through a certain study guide with a trainer. This way the student can understand information about pre and post checks before and after forklift operation as well as forklift driver safety.

Once theory training is completed, students are tasked to complete the practical training part. This includes actual pre and post operational checks, shut down procedures, and load shifting. When this part of the training is complete, a practical test will be conducted by a certified forklift assessor. The assessor evaluates if the student is already competent enough to safely operate the forklift.

During the full completion of the forklift license assessment, students will get a Notice of Assessment or NOA from the forklift assessor. This is used for the actual license application. It can also be used to temporarily operate a forklift for sixty days.

Want to get a forklift licence in Sydney, and unsure which training course to choose? Have a few hours of operating a forklift under someone with a registered forklift licence, but want to obtain your licence yourself?

There are a many courses which you can choose from with Forklift Licence Sydney, depending on your experience and what you want out of it.

Below are the two more popular forklift training courses for those with little or no experience.

One Day Forklift Training And Licencing

The one day forklift training course is a popular course which has been created for people with little or no experience in operating a forklift. However, it’s best for those with some basic forklift operation. That’s because, with the one day forklift training course, the materials for which you need to pass your theory test, are sent out to you, as soon as a booking is made. Because you will be required to go through the materials at your own time and before practical training, it’s best to have some operational knowledge. That way, it will be easier to go through.

When you have taken your time to go through the theory questions and feel confident with the materials, you will then come into the training centre for practical forklift training. (Please remember to wear proper clothing and footwear.)

At the start of your practical training, you will have some time to review the materials with a trainer. That way, you can ask any questions and the trainer can make sure you are ready to begin your forklift training.

Although the majority of the time will be training you to be a safe and competent forklift operator.

To do this, some of the main components which will be covered in the course include knowing the main forklift components, how to operate the forklift safely, how to do safety checks on the forklift and much more.

Once you are confident and the trainer can see that you an excellent technique operating a forklift, you will then be assessed for the practical test.

When you pass both practical an written test, and show that you are safe and competent, you will then be granted an interim forklift licence. During this period, you will then need to apply for a full forklift licence

Two Day Forklift Training And Licencing In Sydney

Like the one day forklift training course, the two course are to help you obtain a forklift licence by teaching everything there is know to become a competent and safe forklift operator. The big difference between the two is that the trainer will spend time going through the theory materials with you. Therefore, it is the perfect course for those who do not have any practical experience or need help with going through the materials.

Over the past few days, we have had a number of people email us and call wanting to know answers [...]

Over the past few days, we have had a number of people email us and call wanting to know answers to a few simple, yet important forklift licence questions.

So we decided to answer them here. Hopefully this will clarify any confusion you may have over them. However, if you still do or you have some other question want to ask, then the easiest way is to email us.

Anyway, here are 3 forklift licence questions which may help you.

1. What’s The Mimimum Age To Obtain A Forklift Licence?

This question gets asked a lot by many people. So if you are wondering what’s the minimum age, then you are not alone.

See, the minimum age to obtain a forklift licence is 18 years.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t operate a forklift under a person who holds a current forklift licence. It means that if you haven’t had your 18th birthday yet, then you’ll have to wait to obtain your forklift licence.

There may be exceptional circumstances why you require a licence before you are 18. And you can apply for this exemption. Although, unless you can prove that it’s exceptional, you will be required to wait until you are the minimum age.

2. What Do I Do If I Have A Forklift Licence From Overseas? Do I Still Need To Go For A Forklift Licence In NSW?

Having a forklift licence from another country does not exempt you from a licence here. And having years of experience does not make you an exception to the rule.

The simple answer is that an international forklift licence is not recognized in NSW. That means, you will be required to be tested, and submit your application for a full licence like everyone else.

3. My Boss Said To Get On A Forklift At Work. I Don’t Have My Licence. Is That Ok?

For those who are currently in a workplace with a forklift and you are asked to operate it, then you need to know that you are allowed to. But what is required by law is that you are supervised at all times by colleague who holds a current forklift licence. Failure to do so means that you are likely to be breaching the law.

If you are in doubt whether a colleague holds a current forklift licence, then you may need to approach your boss about the legal requirements.

To obtain your forklift licence, fill in our automatic Quote form here now.
