3 Important Forklift Licence Facts
Over the past few days, we have had a number of people email us and call wanting to know answers to a few simple, yet important forklift licence questions.
So we decided to answer them here. Hopefully this will clarify any confusion you may have over them. However, if you still do or you have some other question want to ask, then the easiest way is to email us.
Anyway, here are 3 forklift licence questions which may help you.
1. What’s The Mimimum Age To Obtain A Forklift Licence?
This question gets asked a lot by many people. So if you are wondering what’s the minimum age, then you are not alone.
See, the minimum age to obtain a forklift licence is 18 years.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t operate a forklift under a person who holds a current forklift licence. It means that if you haven’t had your 18th birthday yet, then you’ll have to wait to obtain your forklift licence.
There may be exceptional circumstances why you require a licence before you are 18. And you can apply for this exemption. Although, unless you can prove that it’s exceptional, you will be required to wait until you are the minimum age.
2. What Do I Do If I Have A Forklift Licence From Overseas? Do I Still Need To Go For A Forklift Licence In NSW?
Having a forklift licence from another country does not exempt you from a licence here. And having years of experience does not make you an exception to the rule.
The simple answer is that an international forklift licence is not recognized in NSW. That means, you will be required to be tested, and submit your application for a full licence like everyone else.
3. My Boss Said To Get On A Forklift At Work. I Don’t Have My Licence. Is That Ok?
For those who are currently in a workplace with a forklift and you are asked to operate it, then you need to know that you are allowed to. But what is required by law is that you are supervised at all times by colleague who holds a current forklift licence. Failure to do so means that you are likely to be breaching the law.
If you are in doubt whether a colleague holds a current forklift licence, then you may need to approach your boss about the legal requirements.
